Did Your Brain Decide Before You Did? | The Libet Experiment #Consciousness #FreeWill #Mindfulness
In 1983, neuroscientist Benjamin Libet ran an experiment that made people question where a decision begins—and whether awareness can still change what happens next. Who thought your last thought? Late at night, a conversation is over, but one sentence is still alive inside you. Your thumb rests above Send. You want the other person to feel, for one second, what it felt like not to be heard. Before you reply, try something smaller. Picture a red apple. That thought was invited. Now let the apple go. Do not solve a problem. Do not search for the right answer. Just notice what arrives. This film follows that ordinary moment through a simple experiment about a finger, a clock, and the strange interval between an urge and an action. Brain activity can begin before we report a simple decision. But that does not settle every question about freedom, responsibility, or the life we choose to build. Vedanta offers a different place to stand: not outside life, and not above the mind, but awake enough to see a thought before it becomes a story, an intention, and an action. A thought may arrive. The response is where practice begins. This is not a lecture telling you what to believe. It is an invitation to look honestly at the next thought—and at the small distance before your hand moves.
